What is the meaning of Gate 37 in Human Design? When Gate 37/Gene Key 37 appears in your life, it’s time to look at where you can take actions to bring the family and/or community together. This could involve gathering and preparing food to share with others, but also could include an exchange of goods, services, or emotional support. This Gate holds such a beautiful energy in its highest expression, as it has the gift of making everyone feel welcome and it’s an energy that definitely gets back as much as it gives.
Because the more shadowy aspects of Gate 37 can make a person feel disconnected from family and community, it can also be time to look at how you can establish or reestablish bonds with your family, friends, and community in a healthy way. Gate 37 is a call to more deeply attune yourself to enhancing the magical and emotional give and take between you and those around you.
Gate 37 in Human Design is referred to as The Gate of the Family and The Gate of Friendship. When you have this Gate defined in a prominent place in your Human Design chart, part of your life purpose is to “hold a family and community together with your warmth, friendliness and nurturing nature” (The Definitive Book of Human Design). Gate 37 is connected to the Emotional Solar Plexus Center. When Gate 37 is defined in the chart along with Gate 40, it connects to the heart and forms the Channel of Community, whose role is to build bonds with the community based on trust and honesty.
I have an interesting connection with Gate 37 because it took me quite some time to understand its true meaning, even though it’s in a prominent position in my chart (my Unconscious Sun). Although it is my Unconscious Sun in my Human Design chart, I haven’t always resonated with its themes because this Gate is often presented as a Gate whose energy assumes traditional societal roles (i.e., traditional family, traditional community affiliations). But it actually holds the energy for something far deeper and far greater.
While this Gate does hold the energy of nurturing others with warmth and friendliness, it also holds the energy of doing this in any damn way that you please. What I mean by this is that warm emotional connections with others don’t just happen in a traditional family or traditional community setting; they can happen all the time and in all the places and can occur with absolutely anyone.
This Gate holds the energy of being a friend to the world and wanting to make everyone feel more at home in the world, wherever and whenever. This feeling of wanting everyone to feel at home in the world comes, at least in my case, not because I feel at home in the world, but precisely because I don’t feel terribly at home in the world.
Another aspect of this Gate being defined in your chart can be a fear of getting trapped in the traditional roles of society. This can look like just when you’ve settled into a group or institution that you’re a part of and made those strong ties, you’re ready to leave and go find another group/institution.
