Are you tired of feeling stuck, second-guessing your decisions, or living by what others expect of you? What if I told you there's a built-in GPS inside you, designed to guide every decision you make? In this blog post, I’ll show you the three simple mindset shifts that will help you align perfectly with your Human Design Authority—and transform the way you navigate life.
One of the most crucial aspects of Human Design is understanding and aligning with your Authority. But getting into perfect alignment with your Authority isn’t always easy, especially when conditioned beliefs get in the way. For example, it’s taken me YEARS to get in alignment with my Emotional Authority, mainly because there is a lot of waiting involved.
Authority in Human Design is all about how you are designed to make decisions. Think of it as your personal decision-making GPS. Each of us is wired to make choices in a way that feels natural and correct for us. However, many of us have been conditioned by society to make decisions based on logic or outside expectations, rather than tuning into our inner authority.
When you learn to follow your specific Authority, you start making decisions that are in line with who you truly are, which leads to more ease, flow, and satisfaction in life.
In Human Design, there are several types of Authorities. Each person has one, and it's determined by your unique design (you can find yours for FREE by entering your birth details into a Human Design chart calculator like the one HERE).
Let’s explore the different types:
If you have Emotional Authority, you're designed to make decisions based on your feelings—but not in the moment. For you, clarity comes over time. You need to ride the wave of emotions before making a decision, allowing the highs and lows to settle. Once you feel emotionally clear, you can move forward confidently with a particular big decision.
Key Tip: Avoid making impulsive decisions, especially when you're feeling excited or low. Give yourself time to feel things out.
Those with Sacral Authority are designed to trust their gut. You’ll often get a “yes” or “no” response to things. This comes in the form of a gut reaction or a physical response, like a feeling of expansion for a yes, or contraction for a no. Your decision-making works best when it's in response to something in your environment.
Key Tip: Trust your immediate response. Your body knows the answer before your mind does.
Splenic Authority is all about using your intuition. If you have this Authority, your decision-making process comes from an instinctive, in-the-moment knowing. This is not a logical process, but a quick, quiet whisper from your body, guiding you toward what feels safe or healthy.
Key Tip: Learn to listen to those subtle, quiet signals. Your intuition speaks softly but with great wisdom.
With Ego Authority, you're designed to make decisions based on what you truly want or desire. This isn't about selfishness; it’s about being clear on what is best for you. Your decisions are best made when you're connected to your willpower and desires.
Key Tip: Ask yourself, "What do I want?" and make decisions from a place of personal empowerment.
Those with Self-Projected Authority need to talk things out to make decisions, not to get advice but to hear their own thought processes out loud. You’ll find clarity by expressing your thoughts and feelings out loud, whether it’s to another person or just to yourself. The sound of your voice helps guide you to what feels true.
Key Tip: Surround yourself with people who will let you speak freely without trying to influence your decisions.
If you have Environmental Authority, you make your best decisions when you're in the right environment and surrounded by the right people. Your process involves taking in different perspectives and allowing your surroundings to influence your clarity. You don’t have an internal authority, so it's essential to be mindful of where you are and who you're with.
Key Tip: Spend time in environments that feel good and uplifting to you before making any major decisions.
Reflectors are unique, making up about 1% of the population. If you’re a Reflector, your decision-making process is deeply connected to the lunar cycle. You're designed to wait a full 28 days, a complete moon cycle, before making major decisions. This allows you to process things through different phases and gain clarity over time.
Key Tip: Patience is your ally. Allow yourself the full cycle to gain perspective and avoid rushing into decisions.
So, it’s one thing to know the name of your Human Design Authority; it’s another thing entirely to live in perfect alignment with it.
The good news? Achieving alignment with your Human Design Authority doesn’t require years of effort or difficult external changes. In reality, it just comes down to a few simple mindset shifts. If you’re ready to step into greater flow with your Human Design Authority, here are three fundamental mindset shifts you need to make:
One of the most common challenges people face is that they rely on external sources for validation. From a young age, we are taught to seek approval from parents, teachers, peers, and society at large. We’re conditioned to value external benchmarks of success and to make decisions based on what others expect of us. However, this is a direct contrast to living in alignment with your Human Design Authority.
Every Authority type in Human Design—whether it’s Emotional, Sacral, Splenic, or another—requires that you look inward for answers. Your Authority is designed to help you make decisions that are right for you, not decisions based on others' opinions or societal norms.
Mindset Shift #1: Let go of external validation and start trusting your inner authority. Instead of asking, “What do they think?” or “What’s expected of me?”, turn inward and ask, “What does my Authority say?” Whether it’s taking time for emotional clarity, tuning into your gut, or listening to that instinctive hit from your spleen, let your inner truth guide you.
Fear can be a significant barrier to aligning with your Human Design Authority. Many of us have fears around making the “wrong” decision, missing out on opportunities, or facing criticism from other people. These fears often stem from overthinking, analysis paralysis, or worrying about future outcomes. However, Human Design teaches us that we are each designed to make decisions in a way that supports our highest good—if we trust ourselves.
Your Authority is your personal compass, and it will always steer you in the right direction, if you allow it to. The challenge is trusting it, even when it doesn’t seem logical or when it goes against the grain.
Mindset Shift #2: Replace fear with trust. Cultivate trust in your unique decision-making process. Understand that your Authority is there to protect and guide you, even when things are uncertain. This doesn’t mean that fear will disappear entirely, but you can acknowledge the fear while still choosing to trust your Authority to lead the way.
We live in a world that glorifies quick decisions, instant results, and rapid progress. In this environment, patience can feel like a lost art. But for many Authority types in Human Design, patience is the key to making aligned decisions. For example, if you have Emotional Authority, you need to ride the emotional wave and allow your clarity to emerge over time. If you have Lunar Authority, patience is even more critical, as you need to wait through an entire lunar cycle before arriving at the right decision.
Urgency often leads to decisions made from the mind, fear, or pressure, rather than from your Authority. When you rush the process, you’re likely to make choices that aren’t in alignment with your energy. On the other hand, when you embrace patience, you give yourself the time and space to hear your inner guidance clearly.
Mindset Shift #3: Embrace patience over urgency. Allow your decisions to unfold naturally, without forcing them. Give yourself permission to take the time you need to connect with your Authority fully. Whether that means waiting for emotional clarity, paying attention to gut responses over time, or tuning into instinctive hits, know that aligned decisions often require time.
Aligning with your Human Design Authority doesn’t have to be complicated. By making these three simple mindset shifts—trusting your internal guidance over external validation, choosing trust over fear, and embracing patience over urgency—you can step into greater alignment with your true self. Remember, your Authority is a built-in compass designed to help you navigate life authentically. When you honor it, you open the door to greater ease, flow, and fulfillment.
So, the next time you're faced with a decision, take a deep breath and check in with your Authority. Ask yourself: Am I looking outward for validation, or am I trusting my inner truth? Am I letting fear drive my choices, or am I trusting the process? Am I rushing, or am I allowing time for clarity to emerge? With these shifts in place, you'll find yourself moving through life with a greater sense of alignment and purpose, one decision at a time.
